Movie Extra
Breaking Into and Succeeding as a Movie Extra
How to Become a Movie Extra
How to Break Into Film Movie Video Industry

So, you're ready to realize your dream of acting in films, and you don't know where to start. Why not get your foot in the door as a Movie Extra?
Movie extra Work is a great way to get your feet wet in the movie business. You may not earn the massive salaries of the box office heavy hitters, but there is potential to earn a nice income in the small, non-speaking roles in films and television.

It is normal for people to have doubts about taking the plunge into a new career. Over the years, myths about the movie industry have sprung up like weeds, making it seem like getting a job even as lowly as a bagel runner on the set of a movie is impossible without an infinite number of prior connections "in the biz." Not so!

Do you worry that your appearance is not "glamorous" enough for the movies? Not everyone is a Pierce Brosnan or Nicole Kidman look alike, and movie extras are usually cast to represent everyman and everywoman. Yes, average people, not beauty queens and models.

Casting directors, when filling movie extra roles, are looking for the kind of people that would come from the area and time frame the movie is being filmed in. They are looking for average people crossing the average street in the background, or eating at an average restaurant, just like any normal night out in town.

Being glamorous is not necessary for these move extra roles. Even if you are hoping that movie extra work will break you in to the movie business through the back door, there are still plenty of roles in the industry for the non-glamorous.

More importantly, you don't even need to take acting classes (although it's highly recommended). If you can eat in a restaurant, walk across a street, stand in a crowd and yell, run in a screaming mob from a horde of birds, or any other random activity, then you can be a movie extra with little to no prior acting experience under your belt. Just remember -movie extra roles are never a speaking part.

As an extra, you can work for:

Large-budget Hollywood movies
Independent movies
Corporate videos
TV series
TV shows
Commercials

Today, breaking into as a movie extra is easier than before. With sufficient preparation on what you're going to encounter, you should be able to break into and succeed in this growing field with confidence.
